Tretez Kinnaird is a 2013 Butler graduate.  He leaves high school as the best 800m runner in Kentucky history with a #1 time of 1:49.31.  During his senior year he ran the #1 time in the United States during indoor season with a 1:50.97 in Washington.  During high school he earned All-American honors and represented the USA in France in the World Youth Championship.  He will continue his career at Indiana University next year.

A trip to Louisville for the fourth annual Kentuckiana Border Battle is next on the schedule for Indiana track and field. The Hoosiers will join forces with Notre Dame to take on Kentucky and Louisville in a battle for state bragging rights. The meet is scored state versus state, and the Hoosierland has taken both the men's and women's titles the past two seasons after the Commonwealth of Kentucky swept the inaugural meet. Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer has announced the first 18 members of the 2013-14 signing class, and it is full of high-level talent. The group has won a combined 20 state championships, and includes athletes from eight states and three countries. Two of the signees, Laray Smith and Anthony Young, will also play football at Indiana. Brittany and Bethany Neeley made it official on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 when they signed on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington for their collegiate running careers.  The sisters currently attend Eastern High School in Greentown, Indiana.  Both are distance runners who compete in both track and cross-country.

Big Tens Await Hoosiers in Ohio Feb 21, 2013

The postseason begins this weekend for Indiana track and field, as the Hoosiers head to Geneva, Ohio for the Big Ten Indoor Championships. For the second-straight year, the conference's men's and women's meets are being held together simultaneously in the same venue. Drouin Advances to No. 4 in the World, Leads NCAA Feb 9, 2013

Senior Olympian Derek Drouin jumped from sixth to fourth in the world Friday night at the Hoosier Hills Invitational after he easily cleared a height of 2.32 m (7-7.25) in the high jump, which won the event (video below). Indiana track and field's Derek Drouin and Andy Bayer are both among the names released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on the initial Bowerman Watch List. Drouin is one of 10 names on the watch list, and Bayer is one of six others who received votes in the initial ballot from the selection committee. The governing body for track and field in Canada named the current IU senior the winner of both the Cal D. Bricker Memorial Trophy for outstanding performance of the year and the F.N.A. 48 Hoosiers Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars Jul 11, 2012

The Big Ten Conference announced on Wednesday that 587 student-athletes have been selected recipients of the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes student-athletes from every institution and 36 different sports who have earned a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year. Indiana had 48 student-athletes earn the award for 2011-12.

Indiana distance runners Andy Bayer, Chelsea Blanchard and Breanne Ehrman have been named CoSIDA Academic All-District, the organization of sports information directors announced. The honor is the first step in earning Academic All-America honors. Bayer (3.60, Biology) and Blanchard (3.97, Visual Arts Education) both earned Academic All-America honors a year ago, while Ehrman (3.98, Elementary Education) earned first team All-District honors last year as well.

Indiana track and field had one of the best years in program history on the track. The Hoosiers had just as much success in the classroom this year. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the national All-Academic teams, and the lists include 18 Hoosiers. The women's team includes 12 honorees, which tied with Texas for the third most from any program nationally. Six men were honored as well.

Following the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year, the Big Ten Conference announced that 534 student-athletes have been selected as recipients of the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. Indiana had 39 student-athletes named Distinguished Scholars.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America women's track and field/cross country teams, with Vera Neuenswander on the first team, Faith Sherrill on the second team and Chelsea Blanchard and Sarah Pease garnering third team honors. It seems that in everything he does, Andy Bayer makes history. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America men's track and field/cross country teams, and Bayer has earned third team honors. A sophomore, Bayer is the only underclassmen honoree in the University Division. A biology major with a 3.56 grade point average, Bayer is the first Academic All-American ever at Indiana in men's track and/or cross country. He is the 80th in all sports at IU.

The Indiana men's track and field program finished fourth in the John McDonnell Program of the Year Award race for 2010-11, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced. The award is given out based on the program that has the best combined finish at NCAA Championships in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Florida State was awarded this year's trophy.

Junior high jumper Derek Drouin sustained a foot injury while competing in the high jump last weekend at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge. The injury will require surgery and will cause Drouin to sit out the 2011 outdoor season. While recovery and rehab will take time, Indiana's medical staff expects Drouin to make a complete recovery. Drouin will seek a medical hardship redshirt for this outdoor season and return to competition once his rehab is complete.

Indiana assistant coach Abbie Norton (Stechschulte) recently competed at the USA Track and Field Indoor Combined Events Championships, which Indiana University hosted at Gladstein Fieldhouse. Norton took second place in the national championship pentathlon. Norton, who still trains under IU associate head coach Jeff Huntoon, recorded five personal bests in the competition, including her final score of 4,337 points.

The Indiana women's track and field team posted 46 points to end day one of the Big Ten Championships in the team lead, an astonishing number when you consider they scored all 46 in just five events, with 34 points coming from just the shot put and pole vault. The Hoosiers went 1-2 in the pole vault, getting a Big Ten Championships Record performance from Faith Sherrill.

The Indiana men's track and field team continued its climb up the national computer rankings, moving into third place in this week's rankings release. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the weekly national computer rankings Tuesday with the Hoosiers ranked third. The Hoosier men have six performances on the season that currently rank among the top 10 in their respective events this season, including three performances from Andy Bayer. The ranking is the highest for a Hoosier team since the USTFCCCA instituted the system in 2008. The Indiana women remained in the nation's top 25, ranked 25th.

Indiana track and field ranks highly in the first release of the national computer rankings from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Hoosier men rank seventh after being slotted 10th in the preseason ranks, and the women are 16th after finding themselves outside the top 25 in the preseason. The rankings, based on a point system, find the men less than one point out of sixth and the women less than two points out of the top 15.

The Hoosiers get a chance to battle the rival Boilermakers this week when they visit West Lafayette, Ind., for a dual meet with Purdue. The meet was a renewal of the rivalry last year after several years without the teams meeting in the regular season. The Hoosiers defeated Purdue handily a year ago on both the men's (96-40) and women's sides (93-43). The Hoosiers won 22 events out of 30 at the meet in 2010. The meet will be scored using the old system of 5-3-1 for the top three spots in open events and 5-0 in relays.

The Big Ten Conference announced that 83 Indiana University student-athletes have been named to the 2010 Fall Academic All-Big Ten list on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010. The league recognized a total of 706 fall sports student-athletes across men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Indiana football led the way among Hoosier student-athletes with 22 players earning the distinction.

The women's 6K is slated for a noon start and the men's 10K will follow at 1:15 pm. The top 25 finishers in each race will earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors, and the top two teams in each race will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Championships. Hayes Track Receives IAAF Certification Aug 16, 2010

Indiana University Athletics was notified by the International Association of Athletics Federations that Billy Hayes Track at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex has been certified as a Class 2 Athletics Facility. The home venue for IU track and field is just the ninth track on U.S. soil to receive IAAF certification and is only the sixth on a U.S. college campus. The Hoosiers claim the only IAAF certified venue in the Big Ten. The certification provides that Billy Hayes Track meets all technical requirements for IAAF events and that all measurements are accurate.

Wendi Robinson and Sarah Pease have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District first and second teams, respectively, CoSIDA has announced. The honor is bestowed upon student-athletes in the sports of cross country and track and field whom excel on the track as well as in the classroom. As a first-team honoree, Robinson is a nominee for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Thursday, June 24.

When the NCAA East Preliminary Round came to a close on Saturday, nine Indiana student-athletes had earned their way to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Work on Billy Hayes Track continued this weekend, as workers have returned to Bloomington. Indiana Athletics is in the midst of renovations to the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, and specifically Billy Hayes Track. The track will be replaced with a brand new Polytan surface. Once completed, the track will be the first of its kind in the western hemisphere and will be the same type of surface that has hosted multiple World Championship meets throughout Europe.

The Hoosier Hills will be Indiana's final home meet of the indoor season, closing out a string of six weekends with events in Gladstein Fieldhouse. The Indiana Relays marks the second consecutive two-day home meet for the Hoosiers. Indiana will host 22 schools, five clubs/professional organizations and 695 athletes. The meet will start at 3 p.m. ET on Fri., Jan. 29, with preliminary rounds of the 60m sprints and hurdles. Saturday's action will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. The end of each day of competition will be highlighted with invitational races and relays. Friday's invitational races will begin at 7 p.m., and Saturday's invitational races will begin at 2:40 p.m. All field events on Saturday will be invitational sections, consisting of the top-six verifiable entries.

Andrew Poore stood motionless at the starling line, with 385 runners from 42 different schools. As the five mile race progressed, Poore watched as runners began to dwindle from the front, but he stayed strong. Near the end of the race he looked to his left and looked to his right and saw familiar Hoosier jerseys on both sides of him. When he crossed the finish line he was one of four IU athletes to finish in the top 10 at the Paul Short Run in Pennsylvania.

Indiana Athletics is in the midst of renovations to the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, and specifically Billy Hayes Track. The track will be replaced with a brand new Polytan surface. Once completed, the track will be the first of its kind in the western hemisphere and will be the same type of surface that has hosted multiple World Championship meets throughout Europe. Hoosiers Enter National Rankings After Big Win at Paul Short Oct 7, 2009

The Indiana men's cross country team hadn't received a single vote in the first two weeks of the USTFCCCA coaches poll, but that all changed when the Hoosiers defeated two ranked teams at the Paul Short Run on Oct. 2. The Hoosiers are ranked 17th in the USTFCCCA national rankings that were released today. The announcement comes on the heels of two Hoosiers being honored as Big Ten Runners of the Week. The Hoosier women received votes in the poll for the third consecutive week.

The Indiana men's cross country team took the team crown at the Paul Short Run, outrunning two ranked teams in the process. Redshirt freshman Andy Bayer set the pace for the Hoosiers, finishing in third place. He was one of four Hoosiers to place in the top ten, and the fifth IU runner to cross the line, Andy Weatherford took 21st and was only 27 seconds off the winner. The Hoosiers finished with 44 points, No. 7 Iona finished second with 55 points and No. 19 North Carolina State was third with 87 points.

A Hoosier Reels in Big Ten Weekly Honor for Second Straight Week Sep 22, 2009

A week after freshman Zach Mayhew earned Big Ten Runner of the Week honors for his win at the Indiana Open, the conference recognized sophomore Andrew Poore for the same honor on Sept. 22. The two Hoosiers are just the tenth and eleventh IU runners to receive the accolade for the men's program, and they are the first since 2006. They are also the first teammates to win consecutive awards for the Hoosiers.

Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer has announced his program's schedule for the 2009-10 season. Highlighting the indoor slate is a Jan. 16, 2010, matchup with the rival Purdue Boilermakers. The dual meet will mark the first time the two teams have gone head-to-head in the sport since 2004. Drouin Takes Pan-American Junior Title With Huge Clearance Aug 4, 2009

Derek Drouin added two inches to his IU record jump to win the high jump at the Pan-American Junior Championships. The Corrunna, Ontario native cleared 2.27m (7-5.25), beating the rest of the field by 6.5 inches and tying the meet record. His jump is just one centimeter shy of the best junior mark in the world in 2009.

The long list of accomplishments for the young Derek Drouin is ever-expanding. Over the weekend, the Corunna, Ontario native added a Canadian Junior Championship to his credits, as the rising sophomore won the high jump at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships. He also finished fifth in the 110m hurdles and sixth in the long jump.

40 Hoosiers Named 2009 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars Jul 15, 2009

The Indiana Department of Athletics boasts 40 student-athletes on the inaugural Big Ten Distinguished Scholar list, including eight Hoosiers that achieved a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) during the 2008-09 school year. The Big Ten Conference recognizes a total of 498 student-athletes from every institution and 32 different sports who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.7 of higher.

As if garnering All-America honors for the second time this year wasn't enough with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Friday that Indiana junior pole vaulter Vera Neuenswander has been named a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. The social studies education major boasts a 3.974 GPA.

Vera Neuenswander becomes the first All-American pole vaulter for the IU women's program, and she does it in style as the NCAA runner-up. The junior was one of two All-Americans on the day for Indiana. Sophomore Sarah Pease took seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase, becoming the first Hoosier ever to score in the event. The duo scored 10 points for the Hoosiers, and the team sits in 19th place.
