Scouting Report: Mishawaka Boys Todd Grasley Aug 31, 2012

Mishawaka boys' cross country team had a great showing at the state meet in 2011. The Cavemen finished fourth behind Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern, and champion Columbus north. It will be more a difficult task in 2012 after losing four of their top seven from that team including Miguel Lozano who placed sixth and is now running at IUPUI. Coach Kowalewski returns a solid 1-2-3 punch, but will need to find depth at the end of the roster.

The Mishawaka girls' cross country team placed 8th at the New Haven Semi-State missing out on a trip to the state meet. However, this group of girls led by sophomore Anna Rohrer have high hopes. They are looking to become the first girls team from Mishawaka to ever qualify for state.

The Lawrence North boys' cross country team had a tough year in 2011. The Wildcats placed ninth out of ten teams in the Brebeuf Jesuit Regional which could be considered one of the toughest in state with teams like Hamilton Southeastern, Carmel, Zionsville, and North Central just to name a few. Fortunately, for Lawrence North they return five of their top seven runners from last year.

Scouting Report: Warsaw Boys Todd Grasley Aug 26, 2012

Warsaw Community High School boys cross country team returns six of its top seven runners from a 2011 squad that finished 15th at the Indiana State Cross Country Meet. To make it even sweeter for Coach Jim Mills, the Tigers have depth behind their top seven. Eighteen of the twenty runners on last year's team have come back for 2012 and a chance at a top ten finish. Mills says this year's group is one of the best teams they have had in a while led by senior Jacob Poyner and junior Ellis Coon.

If you look at the results of the 2011 Indiana State Cross Country meet you will see one member of the Westfield boys cross country team. If you look at the Carmel Semi-State results you will see two. Results can be deceiving. If you look at the times of the Shamrocks top five runners this season their is no reason they can't make the team results, and possibly finish in the top ten, or even top five.

Carmel High School girls cross country team isn't just one of the premier programs in the Hoosier state, it is also one the top programs in the nation. In 2010, the Greyhounds finished seventh at NXN in Portland Oregon, and followed that up with a fifth place showing in 2011. On the state level, Carmel finished runner-up in 2009 and won state title in 2010 and 2011. That team graduates three seniors Sarah Bennett (2nd at state), Allison Jacobsen (18th), and Rene Wellman (20th). Fortunately for coach Mark Ellington Carmel doesn't rebuilt it reloads

The Valparaiso boys are coming off of a seventh place finish at the Indiana State Cross Country Meet. This year the Vikings return six of their top seven runners from 2011 including top ten finisher Ari Coulopouluous.

The Avon High School girls cross country team is looking to improve on its 13th place finish at the Indiana State Cross Country meet in 2011. Coach Rosenbrock loses two of his top seniors Jesse McNealy and Taylor Smith, but returns the rest of the starting five from their sectional roster including sophomore Malyka Abramson. 

Scouting Report: Hamilton Southeastern Girls Todd Grasley Aug 21, 2012

The Hamilton Southeastern girls cross country team finished sixth at the state meet in 2011 in a very close battle between multiple teams. Fifty-three points separated third from tenth place last year. Coach Golden loses three of his top seven runners to graduation including the team's number three, four, and six runners.. This year's squad is led by sophomore Rachel Nitchwitz. As a freshman, Nitchwitz finished sixth in a time of 18:35.80 on the tough LaVern-Gibson course.

Carmel High School never has a problem getting runners to come out for cross country season and 2012 is no exception. Seventy-six runners have come out this year in hopes of leading the Greyhounds to a state championship. Last year, they finished third behind Columbus North and Hamilton Southeastern. After those teams lost runners to graduation, Carmel looks to be the top team in the state this year returning all five of their top five from a year ago.

In 2011, Hamilton Southeastern finished runner-up at the Indiana State Cross Country Meet to Columbus North. This year the Royals return four of their top seven from a year ago including the Hoosier state's top returner Troy Reeder.
