Indiana Girls NXN Recap
The girls race was a historic one as Jane Hedengren dominated the field, breaking the NXN course record previously held by Katelyn Tuohy with an extraordinary time of 16:32.7 in the rain. Indiana's top performer was Fort Wayne Concordia's Mallory Weller, the only individual qualifier from the state. Mallory got off to a relatively fast start, going through the first kilometer in 19th place with a split of 3:20.1 (16:40 5K pace). She battled through muddy conditions for the rest of the race, finishing 39th out of 199 national qualifiers. Despite the less-than-ideal course conditions, her time of 18:08.4 ranks as one of the fastest ever for Indiana girls at this meet. The Carmel Girls were the only Indiana team to qualify this year, earning an at-large bid from the NXN committee last weekend. Entering the race as the 17th-ranked team in the field, Carmel stayed consistent, scoring between 17th and 19th at the 4K splits. A strong close helped them climb to 15th place by a single point, finishing with 395 team points. Carmel's runners included Annabel Pollert, who placed 98th in 19:04.8; Larkin Taylor, who finished 104th in 19:06.5; Sadie Foley, who placed 110th in 19:12.0; Margo Halle, who finished 137th in 19:34.4; Olivia Mundt, who placed 170th in 20:08.8; Ella Gaddis, who finished 172nd in 20:14.7; and Katy Dascoli, who placed 190th in 20:50.1.
