Indiana Talent Shines at RunningLane & Nike Cross Nationals

Indiana Boys RunningLane Nationals Recap

In the Boys Gold Race at RunningLane Nationals, Indiana athletes did not feature at the front like in the girls' race. The top Indiana finisher was Liam Powers, who emerged this season as Hamilton Southeastern's top runner. Powers ran a consistent race, maintaining positions between 30th and 34th at each mile split checkpoint with times of 4:41 and 9:54 for the first two miles. He closed strong to narrowly achieve a new personal best of 15:17.42, finishing in 32nd place. His previous PR came from a third-place finish at the Shelbyville Regional earlier this year.

Following Liam was a string of Indiana athletes finishing consecutively in positions 43rd through 45th and 47th. Zander Ritenour of Lakewood Park Christian ran 15:23.15, Ian Baker of Brownsburg clocked 15:24.35, Jace Works of Columbus North finished in 15:25.25, and Jack Capes of Carmel posted a time of 15:25.88, all breaking the 15:30 barrier.

In the team competition, there was a close battle between Columbus Thorn (Columbus North) and Brownsburg Distance Elite (Brownsburg). Columbus North secured third place with 141 points, narrowly ahead of Brownsburg, who placed fourth with 147 points. This reversed their finish order from the state championship a few weeks prior, where Brownsburg had taken third place, edging out Columbus North, who finished sixth.

Columbus North's scoring five consisted of Jace Works, who finished 45th in 15:25.3; Neal White, who was 73rd in 15:38.4; Draven Martinez, who placed 85th in 15:42.7; Jonathan Klaus, who finished 101st in 15:47.8; and Logan Vanzant, who placed 153rd in 16:02.9. Brownsburg's top five scorers included Ian Baker, who finished 44th in 15:24.4; Brandon Haas, who placed 63rd in 15:34.0; Eli Balbach, who was 76th in 15:39.3; Tyler Kerzee, who finished 131st in 15:57.9; and Aaron Ferkowicz, who placed 160th in 16:04.7.
