The Eastbay Midwest Regional Championships, formerly named as the Footlocker Cross Country Championship, may have a new name, but the results are still as impressive as ever. On November 27, the best of the Midwest Region of the new Eastbay Cross Country Championship gathered to battle on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  

The top 10 boys and girls finishers at each regional qualified for the national meet to be held on December 11 in San Diego, California.

Indiana was well represented in both the boys and girls races.  

On the boy's side, Angola senior Izaiah Steury finished second overall in 14:53.8.  Steury was only four seconds behind the race champion Riley Hough, of Michigan.  Junior Kole Mathison of Carmel wasn't far behind Steury.  Mathison was eighth, covering the course in 15:01.7.  The next Indiana finisher was Brebeuf senior, Krishna Thirunavukkarasu, who finished eleventh in 15:11. He just missed a qualifying spot, coming in .2 behind the 10th runner.

Indiana had three more competitors finish in the top 30: Senior Cole RaymondL of LaPorte was 22nd in 15:32. Senior Spenser Wolf of Forest Park took 23rd in 15:32 and another senior, Charlie Schuman of Carmel was 30th in 15:41.


For the girls, Indiana was also well represented.  Junior Sophia Kennedy, of Park Tudor,  finished third overall to qualify for a trip to San Diego.  Kennedy posted a time of 17:18.4 on the challenging Parkside course.  Lowell senior Karina James also ran well as she took eighth place in a time of 17:34.6.  Junior Gretchen Farley of Park Tudor finished right behind James in ninth with a time of 17:36.8.  Indiana had one more Top 30 finisher in sophomore Addison Knoblauch of Homestead, who finished 30th in 18:15.3.

This gave Indiana three female qualifiers and several PR performances. There is still another huge weekend of racing coming up this weekend at the Running Lane National Championships with several Indiana teams and top individuals scheduled to compete on Saturday.
