Girls Teams
The Greyhounds are the overwhelming favorites for the state championship this year. The MileSplit virtual meet gives them a potential margin of victory of a whopping 106 points. INCCStats also gives the girls an 81% chance of bringing home the title. The team, led by Sadie Foley, Annabel Pollert, and Larkin Taylor, could see upwards of six girls on the podium with all of them having season bests better than 18:25 this year. This would be Carmel's 20th team state title and first since 2020 if they win again.
One of the only teams that looks to have a sliver of a chance at taking down Carmel would be the Cadets from Concordia. The powerful 1-2 sister duo of Mallory Weller and Daphne Weller could do some damage. Mallory looks to be in a good spot to score the first team point in the meet with most girls ranked ahead of her all advancing as individuals. Daphne has dipped under the 18 minute mark with three additional girls all getting just under 19 minutes for their season bests as well. The team should be in a good spot to get at least state-runner up honors again this year.
After winning the state title last fall the Spartans come back with a chance to make the podium once again. Caterina Perego and Lucy Kramer have stepped up and look to be in prime positions to help the team as they will likely be in the mix of schools behind Carmel
The Braves will look to compete at state for the first time since 2018 and make the podium for the first time since 2017 when the girls would finish fourth. The team is in the mix for one of the best finishes in school history and have Lucy Wood as their go-to frontrunner this season. She is supported by a cast of three other girls that have been in the 18:30s range this year.
This is a team where the MileSplit virtual meet was not too kind due to the gap between their top three and 4th/5th runners. Macey Thompson has emerged as one of the state's top talents in a season that has seen dramatic improvement from last year. Having Chloe Neal and Lana Burggeman as potential teammates on the individual podium will certainly help the team have a chance at top five.
The last team to make the podium in the MileSplit virtual meet would be Columbus North. The team was runner-up in 2022 and will be looking to make another run at top five this year. Led by Carys-Glyn Jones and three girls in the 18:40s range, this team has a shot to take down some quality teams after breezing through the Evansville Regional with the win. INCCStats gives them a 25.9% chance of a top five finish.
The Flashes are another team that are looking to return to the podium after narrowly making it last year by one point. This year Savana Miller has been their top runner and she looks to be a runner that could be on the individual top 25 podium. The team is coming off an impressive regional championship where they defeated Noblesville by 16 points. Earlier in the season Noblesville bested them by only five points at the Hoosier Crossroads Championships.
The Millers missed the podium last fall after winning the state title at the 2022 state championships. This year they look to be on the outside looking in but have a few runners that can help bring up their odds. Riley Flynn, a recent IU Indianapolis commit, and Ansley Applegate look to be the team's top two with both running under 18:20 this season. The Millers look to have a solid four and will likely need a big day from their fifth if they wish to see the podium again this weekend.
