IHSAA Boys Track & Field State Championship Recap

Brown and Bird take throws competitions in upset victories

Through four throws, Eastside shot putter Dane Sebert was in first place. He ended the day in second, though, as Ben Davis' Nylan Brown unleashed a throw of 63' 1.5", ranking him No. 27 in the nation and winning the competition by over a foot.

Brown's season best coming into the competition was second in the state, while Sebert's was fourth.

Similarly in the discus throw, season bests weren't all that predictive of the final results due to the rainy and wet conditions.

Hamilton Southeastern's Josiah Bird took care of business halfway through, throwing 182' 9" on his third attempt. Joel Gates of Fishers was only fourth after his third toss but became the only other athlete to break 180 feet on his next try.
