IHSAA Girls Track & Field State Championship Recap

Warren Central takes top two spots in long jump, Kya Crooke gets redemption in high jump

It was a reordering of last year's top three in the long jump competition, as Warren Central teammates Jila Vaden and Laila Smith secured first and second place while the 2023 champion, Kya Crooke of Heritage Christian, walked away with bronze.

Crooke still left the meet with a state title, though, clearing 5' 11" in the high jump, tying her PR. She would come close on three atempts at a new state record of 6' 0.25". Right behind Crooke was Josie Page of Wood Memorial, who set a season best of 5' 10"-the same height she won with last year.

A third Warren Central athlete made her presence known in the jumps as Kira Smith tied for third with Homestead's Ellie Irwin.

Kya Crooke talks about finally winning her first state title in the high jump and what the rest of the outdoor season looks like.
