Two of the Nation's Top Shot Putters Looking to PR
The last time Luke Himes visited Warsaw he set a new indoor PR, facility record, as well as a US #1 performance in the shot put with a throw of 67' 5" in the shot put. This past weekend he would come close to this mark with his second best throw of the season of 66' 11" at the Indiana Runner Indoor Invitational. The Heritage Christian standout still holds a commanding lead over the rest of the nation as his mark is over a foot over the second best effort nationally at 66' 4.5".
Another big throw could come out of this weekend and his outdoor PR could be in jeopardy. The mark to beat is 67'10" for this to occur. More about the Notre Dame commit's nation leading throw from two weeks ago can be found here.
On the girls side Whitko's Gwen Howard looks to have the best seed in the field by a whopping 8 feet. Last year at the 1A-3A HSR Finals she would win with a throw of 45' 3". That mark would rank eight in the nation currently. Coming in at #2 nationally from this past weekend was Greensburg's Emarie Jackson with a toss of 47' 3" down at the Louisville Indoor Games.
That will be the mark to beat this weekend if Howard wants the state lead in the event. A throw of 41 feet would be enough to secure a top 50 ranking on the national leaderboard while 43 feet could place her in the top 20 in the country.
