Carmel Greyhounds Compete at Nike Cross Country Nationals

The Carmel Greyhounds competed in this past weekend's Nike Cross Nationals in Portland Oregon and placed 11th out of 22 teams who had all qualified from nine regionals nationwide.  In a race run at Portland Meadows in incredibly muddy conditions the Greyhounds completed their 2012 season on a high note after having captured the 2012 Indiana State Championship at the end of October and then becoming the first Carmel Boy's team to qualify for NXN.
 
Arcadia (CA) won their second National Championship with 108 points and were followed by American Fork (UT) 122, North Spokane (WA) 146, Christian Brothers Academy (NJ) 167, Philadelphia XC Club (PA) 223, York Elmhurst (IL) 231, West Kennewick (WA) 239, Southlake Carroll (TX) 246, St. Xavier (OH) 251, Blacksburg (VA) 277, Carmel (IN) 268, Saratoga Springs (NY) 271, Davis (UT) 308, St. Xavier (KY) 322, West Chester (NJ) 352, Fayette Manlius (NY) 372, Bismark (ND) 393, Carlsbad (CA) 424, West Des Moines (IA) 442, Whittier (CA) 464,  Bend (OR) 485 and Woodlands TX) 526.
 
The individual winner was Sam Wharton from Ohio with a winning time of 17:06 which demonstrated the difficulty of the course.  Running for Carmel was Robert Browning (48th in 18:09), Ben Veatch (52nd in 18:10), Charles Watson (104th in 18:48), Michael George (105th in 18:49), Ben Anderson (114th in 18:53), Corey Turner (124th in 19:00) and Daniel Williams (152nd in 19:24).
