Girls State Championship: Last Year vs This Year

In this weeks State Championship edition of Indiana: Most Improved, we take a look at last year's performances from the state finals and compare them with this weekend's results to where returners stacked up with their race from last year.

The top honors for the state finals would be no stranger as Macey Thompson from Lake Central would cap off an incredible sophomore year of improvement as she would take nearly three minutes off of her time from last year. She would also make a massive leap in her placement going from a 200th place finish as a freshman to 4th place this past weekend. From the same New Prairie regional would be Lila Van Hoveln from Penn with the next best improvement of the weekend as she would shave off 1:50 from her time from the state finals last fall. She would improve by 156 places going from a 215th place finish last season to 59th this past weekend. Rounding out the top three, also coming out of the New Prairie Regional, would be Vanessa Parsons from Morgan Township with an improvement of 1:48 going from a 20:45 to a 18:55 for a 39 place improvement from last year.

Of the 114 girls that returned to the state finals from last year, 79 would make an improvement in their time compared to last year. Of those 79, ten would have an imrprovement of at least one minute or more. Check out the full list of returners below!
