IHSAA Girls Track & Field State Championship Recap

Hadley Lucas sets two meet records, winning discus and shot put

Bloomington North's Hadley Lucas launched her fifth discus throw 169' 6" to win the competition by over 17 feet, as Emarie Jackson of Greensburg and Emma Yoder of Wawasee each nabbed second and third place on their second throws.

After throwing 156' 1" last year at Regionals, Yoder failed to surpass 143' 2" this season and was seeded fifth coming into the State Finals. She was able to get closer to her 2023 form, however, throwing just over 150 feet.

Lucas then doubled back in the shot put where she won by almost a meter. After fouling her first throw, Lucas took the lead on her next heave and held it the rest of the way. The only drama appeared to be whether Lucas would break the State Finals record from 2011 and she did just that on her sixth and final throw.

Three other throwers who scored in discus did so in the shot put as well: Emarie Jackson, Whitko's Gwen Howard, and Noblesville's Hannah Alexander.

Hadley Lucas talks about winning her 4th and 5th state titles between Discus and Shot Put as well as what the future holds for her.
