VOTE: Girls Indiana Athlete of the Month in April

It is time to VOTE! The month of April saw many athletes starting to perform at their best as the temperatures got warmer and teams started competing in bigger meets. 

With so many amazing performances and accomplishments, there are 8 girls who top the poll for MileSplit Indiana April Performer of the Month.

Angel Thomas - South Bend Adams: Thomas is another returning all-state athlete with early season successes. She holds top times in the state for the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Thomas has won every 100 and 200 final that she has been in so far in 2023.

Paige Kirtz - Brownsburg: Kirtz has top two times this season in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Currently holding the top spot in the 200 after her win at a triangular meet in early April, Kirtz also won the 400 at the Charlie Riley Invitational in a new PR of 57.12 adding to her spectacular season so far.

Kate Henselmeier - Center Grove: Henselmeier finds herself near the top of multiple events thus far into the season. Her double win at the Columbus North Invite in the 200 and 400 meter dashes has her sitting with top two spots in both of those events. Her 400 meter time of 55.77 at the Royal Relays set a new PR adding to a great April for the Trojan senior.

Nicki Southerland - Delta: Southerland has the current top time in the state in the 800 with her 2:10.80 at a triangular meet on April 13th. Southerland also has top 15 times in 3 other events (400, 1600, and 3200). Southerland was also one of four athletes to go under 10:15 in the Carmel 3200 Showcase on April 21st. 

Sophia Kennedy - Park Tudor: Kennedy was a big winner in the month of April winning both distance showcases. After her dominant win at the Flashes Showcase on April 14th, Kennedy went on to set a meet record at the Carmel 3200 Showcase with a time of 10:07.28. This is the best time in Indiana since Lily Cridge ran 10:03 at the state meet in 2021.

Rachel Mehringer - Forest Park: Mehringer continues to dominate the hurdle events in Indiana. She has not lost a hurdle race yet this outdoor season. That includes her state best time in the 100 meter hurdles of 13.95 from the Tell City Invitational. That to go along with the 3rd best 300 meter hurdle time thus far in the season.

Hadley Lucas - Bloomington North: Lucas had a historic month of April in the throws. At the Conference Indiana championships she won both the shot and the discus by wide margins. Her throw of 167'2" in the discus throw is the 4th best throw in Indiana of all-time. Lucas is the current state leader in both events that she won state titles in a year ago.

Kailee Swart - Cathedral: Swart continues to dominate the pole vault in Indiana. She jumped a new PR of 13'6.75" at a triangular meet on April 4th to hold the states top performance. Swart will look to build on her high finish at the state meet last year.
