Top 5 Boys Teams for the 2018 Cross Country Season

4. Fort Wayne Carroll

Carroll is a hard team to predict. They are very good on paper but it's tough to know what will happen when they start to hit the course. They pulled off an upset back in 2016 winning their 1st team title over Carmel. Before that they had 2 runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2012, both times coming up short to Carmel. Currently their biggest downfall is the spread between their top 5 scorers. They have almost a 2 minute spread between them, which is something that won't be good against their big time competition. Between their 1-2 guys, there's nearly a minute separating them. Having a squad packed with seniors though, should work out well for them. All of these guys were around when the team won the 1st state title and understands what it takes to win one. They were 7th at last year's state meet, but they did have a couple guys hurt which costs them a couple spots. The key to the Chargers getting back on top will be that middle group and really working towards lowering those times into the upper 15 minute range, if they can do that, they will truly be a team that isn't easy to beat.
