Building interest in a (basically new) cross country program

Greetings all! I was recently appointed cross country coach at essentially a new school (Christel House Manual HS), a merging of 2 schools (see link below). One school has never had cross country, the other has only sporadically had it. Consequently, we have thus far not been able to develop much interest. This is where you come in, because I trust and value your opinions. What types of things do you think would help develop interest in joining cross country? What methods could we employ? Do you have any ideas that have worked well for you in the past?
