Sectional meets kicked off this week across the state of Indiana. Several teams embarked to Terre Haute, Indiana, the self proclaimed Cross Country Town USA for their chance to head to the regional competition next week and ultimately the state meet.
The boys race was lead by Jackson Bertoli. The Terre Haute South junior has had a heck of a season winining five of seven meets and finishing second in the other two. Tuesday he put the clock aside and just ran for the win, crossing the line in 16:31.60. Sophomore teammate Spencer Danielson placed second in 16:55.40 as Terre Haute South took seven of the top nine spots to win the team championship with just 20 points! Terre Haute North was second led by third place finisher Justin Clapp, while Northview rounded out the top three.
On the girl's side, Chanli Mundy is healthy and ready to run for a state title. Mundy won her conference meet las week and didn't hold back at sectionals. She placed first at this meet a year ago as well as at Semi-State, before finishing fifth at the state meet. It was a great day for Terre Haute North as Mundy won the race in 19:13.60 followed by teammates Jessi Conley(19:33.70) and Laura Johnson (19:50.70). THN won the meet with a near perfect score of 17 points. TH South was second (51 points) and Northview third with 128 points.
