WESTERN OTT THREW 109 FEET AS A FRESHMAN. THIS SPRING HE'S AT 191
The field events program at Churubusco has a track record
Westen Ott's first discus throw on record measured 109 feet. That was his freshman year. This spring he is throwing 191-6 in the discus and 66-7 in the shot put - that shot mark leads Indiana and ranks ninth nationally. The distance between those two numbers came from four years of the same program, the same competition schedule, the same throwing circle in Churubusco.
Last spring he placed second at the IHSAA State Track and Field Meet in both events -188-2 in the discus, 62-9.5 in the shot - then went to the Midwest Meet of Champions the following week and won both. His PR stands at 192-6.
Hunter Miller won the Indiana Middle School State pole vault championship in 2024, clearing 13-0. This spring he is clearing 14-6 - 10th in Indiana - and has been consistent at that height across both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He also competes in the 110 and 300 hurdles, running 16.80 and 42.72. Cameron Lattimore cleared 10-6 in the pole vault as a freshman. He went to 13-3 as a sophomore, dipped to 12-6 as a junior, and this spring has reached 14-0 - 15th in Indiana, the best mark of his career. He also runs the 100 in 11.52 and has jumped 17-8.75 in the long jump. Churubusco will be looking for some postseason points out of its vaulting duo, as one member's high school career comes to its conclusion and the other continues to build.
Emma Eby cleared 5-4 in the high jump in the first meet of her first high school season and that mark has her 14th in Indiana. She has no prior high school outdoor season results on record.
Let's look at more of the roster. Aubrey Mapes is 35th in Indiana in the girls discus at 121-11. Carson Tonkel is 74th in the 300H at 41.58 and 82nd in the 110H at 15.64. Lucas Hartsock is 95th in the high jump at 6-0. Jessa Debolt is 109th in the girls shot put at 34-0.5. Cora Boersema is 111th in the girls discus at 106-4.5. Addison Papenbrock is 104th in the girls pole vault at 8-6. Maura Wright is 123rd in the girls 100H at 16.64. Blaine Wilson is 202nd in the 800 at 2:04.20.
The ceiling on this program has not been tested yet.
