Indiana's Class of 2028 Picks Up Where They Left Off
Walker, Watson, Prater, and Condon all make early statements
The 2026 outdoor season is just underway in Indiana, and four Class of 2028 athletes have already made a splash on the leaderboards. Mike Walker, Colton Watson, Mikayla Prater, and Mackenna Condon each opened with marks that sit at the top of the sophomore lists statewide.
BOYS
Walker won both the 100m and 200m at the Chris Nicolini Invitational on Mar. 30, running PRs of 10.64 and 21.42 respectively. The 10.64 leads all Indiana sophomores in the 100m by 0.46 seconds over second place, puts him top the state regardless of age, and ties him 35th in the country. The 21.42 also leads all Indiana sophomores in the 200m. Indoors this past season he ran 6.71 in the 60m at the 2026 Indian Open on Mar. 7, which tied at first in the state overall regardless of grade. Last outdoor season his 100m best was 10.99 and his 200m best was 22.39.
Watson ran 1:57.00 to win the 800m at Whiteland vs Roncalli on Mar. 23, leading all Indiana sophomores in the event by over nine seconds and tying him 27th in the country. His 2025 outdoor best was 1:59.85, which he ran at New Balance Nationals Outdoor where he finished 34th - he posted a 1600m PR in 2025 of 4:22.50. Last cross country season he won the NXR Midwest Regional Championships in 16:24.40.
GIRLS
Prater threw 118-4 in the discus and 28-9 in the shot - a PR - to open her outdoor season at Bloomington South vs Edgewood on Mar. 31. The discus mark leads all Indiana sophomores in the event, and the shot put ties her 23rd among Indiana sophomores. Her 2025 outdoor discus best was 122-2, and indoors this season she threw 24-9.50 in the shot put at the Warren Central HSR Qualifier on Mar. 4. She competed at the USATF Indiana Association Junior Olympic Championships last summer, where she threw 116-10 in the discus.
Condon ran 5:12.53 to win the 1600m at HSE Girls vs Westfield on Mar. 31, and now sits atop the sophomore class leaderboard in the state. Her 2025 outdoor 1600m best was 5:16.24, and her mile PR of 5:21.65 came at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last June where she finished 78th. Indoors this season she ran 11:34.88 in the 3200m at the Fall Creek Pavilion HSR Qualifier on Mar. 17, and last cross country season she placed 74th at the IHSAA State XC Championships.
