IHSAA Boys Track & Field State Championship Recap

Ryba, Coker, McQuinn win jumps and pole vault despite venue change

Relegated to Indiana University's fieldhouse due to bad weather, the jumps competitors closed out their outdoor season indoors, and three first-time champions were crowned.

In the high jump, only two athletes came in with PRs over 6' 8" and both cleared seven feet this season: Warsaw Community's Jordan Randall and Greenfield Central's Elliot Ryba.

As the lone competitor to jump over 6' 10" on the day, however, Ryba won the event and improved on his second-place finish from last year.

Randall was one of two other jumpers to get over 6' 8" and skipped to 6'10", which he failed to clear. This gave Tremayne Brown of Anderson the ability to nab second place with a successful attempt at 6' 9". This would be the a massive PR for Brown with his previous best coming from the Muncie Central Realys where he cleared 6' 7'.

After launching himself over 24 feet at Regionals, Elijah Coker of Penn had the strongest personal best of the long jump field, and was able to jump a winning 23' 3" on his second attempt.

Fishers junior JonAnthony Hall came up just short on his fourth jump but secured second place with 23' 1". Hall will now go into his final year with two top-four finishes at the state meet under his belt.

There was no upset when it came to the pole vault title either, as Hamilton Heights' Peyton McQuinn reached new heights after clearing 16' 3" on his second try. McQuinn was Indiana's top vaulter this season with a season best of 16' 0".

Three other athletes in the top five left with PRs, including back-to-back runner-up Eli Griffin of Homestead.
