Introducing Josh Horowitz as MileSplit Indiana State Editor

To all athletes, coaches, parents, and fans in the Indiana running community,

For those that have been around our sport for the last several years, you've more than likely seen my face, heard my voice, or maybe just recognize my name. Whether it's been at a cross country meet in the fall, a track meet in the spring, or even on a podcast or video interview online, I've always tried to add some of my own personality, knowledge, and passion to the running community here in Indiana. I'm excited to announce that I will now be doing all that and more as the new State editor for MileSplit Indiana.

My experience in running starts with my participation in cross country and track and field in middle school and high school. I was a member of the cross country and track teams at Carmel High School for all four years. I was a part of two state championship teams with the Greyhounds, including running on the Cross Country State championship team in 2013 that also placed 5th at Nike cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon that same season.

After high school, I had an immediate desire to get into the coaching side of running. I had so many coaches in school that did so much for me in my life and I was excited to get the chance to have the same impact on the next generations of athletes.

I was an assistant coach at Carmel Middle School for two years to start my coaching career. Then I moved to Bloomington, Indiana and started coaching at Bloomington South under head coach Larry Williams. I have been an assistant with the Panther cross country and track teams at South for the last six years and have enjoyed working with some amazing athletes.

It has been incredible to learn from some great coaches in my short time coaching our great sport and I hope to continue leading athletes in the sport of running for years to come.

This past track season I was very appreciative to get the chance to do some cool things as a contributor for MileSplit Indiana. It definitely gave me an even greater perspective on how lucky we are here in Indiana to have such a great community of runners, coaches, and fans. I hope to continue the great coverage and passion that past State editors have brought to the whole Indiana running community.

We will also be looking for more contributors to help bring coverage throughout the whole state of Indiana. So, if you think you can contribute to our site and help cover the sport for Indiana, please don't hesitate to reach out.

This weekend I will be at Lavern Gibson for the Valley Kickoff, but you can find me at a meet every weekend. So if you see me at a meet throughout the season, don't be afraid to say hello or just give a wave as I run by trying to cheer on my team or chase down the race winner for an interview.

Cross Country season is here folks, and I can't wait to take it on as the State Editor for MileSplit Indiana. Good luck to everyone this season and I will see you all out on the cross country course this fall!

With great excitement,

Josh Horowitz
