800m Race

Just days after winning both the 1600m and the 3200m at the Ben Davis girl's regional, Nicki Southerland took to the track in Alabama in the 800m and the full mile. The sophomore, ended up taking 2nd in both events, running new PR's in both events with a 2:08.64 and 4:45.03 respectively.

These marks now put her as the fastest female sophomore in Indiana history in the 800 and 1600 (converts to 4:43.28). The previous record-holder was Abigail Lynch from her double at the 2019 state meet.

Mile Race

Southerland is set to race this weekend in the IHSAA State Championships in the 3200 and the 1600. She will face some tough competition in both events. Addy Wiley and Gretchen Farley will provide strong title contenders in the 1600 and push the sophomore for her most competitive race of the year on Indiana soil. In the 3200, Southerland comes in with the top seed mark by 18 seconds, but Sophia Kennedy, Addy Wiley, Karina James, and Kendall Martin will be ready to battle it out with her.
