IN MileSplit Inaugural End-of-Season Awards

There are just a couple of meets left in the postseason before the 2021 Cross Country season is totally over. With Thanksgiving here, it is a good time to recognize the achievements of so many hardworking athletes in Indiana who achieved great things.

The IN MileSplit awards are really meant for the enjoyment of the fans and to recognize as many possible athletes as deserve to be honored. Although we can honor a ton of runners, there undoubtedly be someone left off- never fear- there is always another season just around the bend!

To give us a taste of what's to come over the next several days as we slowly release the awards, we will start with couple of great awards to kick off the series.

Freshman of the Year - Female

Addison Lindsey - East Noble High School

Although reports of a late season injury may have soured the end of the last two meets of the season for the East Noble freshman, Addison Linsey was on fire most of the season. Lindsey was West Noble Sectional Champion and the Regional Runner-Up to Addison Knoblauch of Homestead.

Addison also led her very young team to the state finals and ran a gutsy race at the Semi-State, reportedly possibly suffering from an injury, to help her team secure 5th place the trip to Terre Haute. She also recorded the fastest freshman time this season with an 18:30 finish at Wildcat Classic.

Honorable Mention: Brinkley Cooper - Noblesville, Xavery Weisman - Pike Central, Olivia Mundt - Carmel, Linzi VanMeter - Jasper

Freshman of the Year - Male
Sam Quagliaroli - Fishers

Fishers has what looks to be a future star in the making with Sam Quagliaroli. Sam was the top freshman at the IHSAA State Finals with his 39th place finish. He contributed heavily to the podium fourth place finish the Fishers boys enjoyed this season as well.

Sam was the only freshman boy in the state to dive under 16:00, which is a huge accomplishment for a freshman. His 15:59 came on the LaVern Gibson course as well which really points toward a huge future in state meet competitions.

Honorable Mention: Jackson Nolan - Evansville F.J. Reitz, Deacon Sawyer - Castle High School, Carlos Mata - Austin High School, Mason Nobles - Valparaiso
