Sectional 16 - Delta
Freshman Nicki Southerland headlines IHSAA Sectional 16. The Delta Eagle has had a stellar debut season, setting the state's fastest time of 17:35.0 at the Riverview Health Invitational. Southerland has never lost a race in her young high school career, and will look to continue that this weekend as the state tournament gets under way.
Led by Southerland, the Delta Eagles should be able to cruise to the girls sectional championship. Yorktown and Monroe Central should be the second and third best teams in this sectional, with Wes-Del, Cowan, Jay County, Wapahani and Muncie Central looking for those last two spots in next week's regional.
The boys race should see a tight competition for top honors between Wapahani and Monroe Central. Yorktown and Delta will be left to fight for third, while Muncie Burris and Muncie Central battle for fifth.
Sectional #16 at Delta will start at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
