Steury Drops a Sub-9, Cridge Moves Into Top 10

Angola High School's Izaiah Steury made a nearly seven hour trip to Nashville, TN to race on the track once more before getting into cross country, and he made it count. This time in the 3200 at the Music City Distance Carnival. Steury came into the race as the No.3 seed with a 9:11 time from the indoor season.

Steury ran right with Jackson Braddock of NJ the entire way, coming through the halfway point in about 4:26. The guys would keep that pace up the rest of the way, finishing off with both under 9 minutes for 3200 meters. Braddock came across in a new meet record time of 8:54.02.

Steury took 2nd in 8:57.17, for a major PR for the now high school junior. His mark moves him into No.15 all-time for Indiana high school boys, just behind Cole Hocker's 8:56.02 from the 2019 season. Steury will likely open his fall cross country season in just a matter of days at the Dekalb Invitational. He will be a top contender for a state title this fall, after taking 7th last year and is the No.3 returner from the state finals.

In the girls 3200, Bishop Chatard's Lily Cridge made the trip to race once more before kicking off her cross country season as well. The now sophomore managed to save her best for last on the track in 2020, running down a new PR of 10:30.07.

That is a 6 second PR for the Trojan, after running a 10:36 solo in early July. Her 10:30 also propelled her up the all-time list and into the No.10 spot for Indiana HS girls.

Cridge still has 3 more track seasons to go and we could continue to see big things from her.

She will open up her cross country season next Saturday at the Circle City Conference Champs. She was 8th at the 2019 state xc finals, and is the No.6 returner.
