The Kokomo High School Ladykats Track and Field team captured impressive places at the Hoosier State Relays Quailifier Meets Friday and Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.
Friday night, senior Brianna Lancaster won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.73 beating a field of 24 hurdlers and fellow senior and Indiana State University recruit, Summer Blackamore won the shot with a 41'0" effort. Blackamore, who will compete at the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation National Championship this weekend, beat a field of 33 competitors. Also on Friday, sophomore Deju Miller placed 3rd in the high jump with a 4'11" jump and she teamed with Lancaster, Taylor Coram and Jania Eddington to place 8th in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:58.8. Senior Haleigh Parrish placed 4th in the pole vault.
Getting home after midnight Saturday morning and seven-hours later, the team returned for a second day of competition at IWU where Lana Pham placed third in the high jump. The freshman jumped 5'2" and defeated 15 other jumpers.
The HSR will be held at !WU, Saturday, March 22. The top 24 performances in the state will compete for an individual and team state title. Currently, Pham, Blackamore, Lancaster, the Ladykats' 1600-meter-relay team are among the top 24 performances in the state.
This week, the team will compete in the Purdue University Invitational, Thursday, and on Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational at the Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne Athletic Center.
