Salute To Seniors: Morayo Akande - North Central

What was your most memorable race?

MIC Conference 2011 when me and my best friend Brenna Poulsen both broke school records that night. She in the 3200m and I in high jump.

Who was your biggest competition?

Mackenzie Kitchel from Center Grove. She always kept me on my toes but we were also good friends so I enjoyed seeing her at meets.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

Winning State this year in high jump. I saw my whole high school career flash before my eyes in the middle of my winning jump.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have trained and ran the open 400m race. Even though I don't like the 400m, I realized too late that I could have been really good.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I had to learn not to psych myself out and to believe in my ability over everything else.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Believe in your training and always remember that hard work DOES pay off. You don't sweat that much for nothing!

What are your college plans?

Attend Brown University, major in Biology and run on the track and field team.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

My high jump coach Bill Alumbaugh (Dragonball). He is a great coach and friend and was the perfect compliment for me throughout my high school track career.
