PERSONAL BESTS SECURED AT CONFERENCE CHAMPS
Kevin Carnes (50-7.5 SP), Dillon Price (150-2 DT), Lauren Nunn (5-4 HJ), and Shiloh Bunch (5:11.18 1600m) headline a strong week for Indiana underclassmen.
BOYS
Carnes put the shot 50-7.5 to win the PLAC Championships on May 8, clearing 50 feet for the first time and setting a significant PR in the process. The season arc behind the throw shows steady development: he opened at 43-7, worked up to 48-1.5, then went 46-3 at the North Harrison Track Invitational on May 1 before his conference PR. His 2025 outdoor best was 44-10.
The Austin Invitational on May 6 produced Price's biggest throw of the season - 150-2, good for first place and a PR that ties him for 66th in Indiana across all grades. He opened his season at 124-7 in early April, then threw 122-1 before a 136-8 heave that place third at the Sam Sumner Invitational on Apr. 18. After a 131-10.5 at the North Harrison Track Invitational on May 1, he added nearly 13-and-a-half feet at the Austin Invitational five days later. His 2025 outdoor best was 126-9.
GIRLS
Nunn's season has been a study in building toward a breakthrough. She opened at 4-4, cleared 4-8 at the Madison County Track and Field Championships on Apr. 17, got over 4-11 her next outing, then cleared 5-0 to win the Eastern Invitational Relays. From there, she soared over 5-4 to win the PAAC Championship on May 9, a PR that ranks her 17th in Indiana across all grades.
Bunch ran 5:11.18 to place third at the HHC - Girls meet on May 12, a PR that ranks her 67th in Indiana across all grades. It's a long way from where she started her season - 5:33.90 to win the Delta HS Dual on Apr. 2. Her next 1600m race, she ran 5:13.96 to win the Delaware County Championship, before dropping another 2.78 seconds at the conference meet four days later. She's also run 2:22.92 in the 800m.
