Here are some of the biggest drops of the Spring
Brantley Blair (Oak Hill Junior High, 2030) came into the outdoor season having already served notice indoors. He ran 4:29.41 in the 1600m this winter - a massive jump from his indoor best of 4:53.74 the year before and a mark that ranked 22nd in Indiana even among high school competition. The outdoor season has taken things further.
At the Mississinewa Middle School meet on Apr 23, Blair ran 4:28.56 in the 1600m, an outdoor best by nearly 19 seconds. The mark leads the Indiana middle school boys state leaderboard by 14 seconds. He doubled back in the 800m at the same meet, running 2:05.46 - nearly 12 seconds faster than his previous outdoor best of 2:17.19 and the fastest mark on the Indiana middle school boys 800m board. Blair also leads the state in the 2400m at 7:09.56 from the Central Indiana Conference Championships on May 2.
The 1600m board behind him features a deep group making their own moves. Luke Brames (Immaculate Heart of Mary, 2030) is second at 4:42.94 from the IHM/CTK CYO Track Meet at Brebeuf on Apr 26. Camden Bayless (Woodside MS, 2030) sits third at 4:45.15 from Woodside vs Maple Creek on Apr 28, a big PR over his previous outdoor best of 5:01.32.
In fourth, Kai Walker (Clay MS, 2030) has gone 4:47.30 and Andrew Maloney (Carmel MS, 2030) is fifth at 4:48.44.
The 800m board shows many of the same athletes competing across multiple events. Brames is third at 2:10.34 from the CYO Northside Meet on Apr 12, a slight PR over his outdoor best of 2:10.81. Ren Yamada (Creekside MS, 2030) sits fourth at 2:11.87 from the Carmel MS City Meet on Apr 30.
