KNOBLAUCH LEADS THE STATE AT 5:15.05
Three of Indiana's top four 1600m marks this spring came from a single dual meet in Fort Wayne.
A dual meet between Woodside and Maple Creek on Apr 28 produced the two fastest outdoor middle school 1600m marks in Indiana this spring without much fanfare. Eighth-grader Emery Knoblauch of Woodside won in a 5:15.05 PR. Milena Williams, an 8th-grader from Maple Creek, crossed second 5:19.82, another PR. Three of the top four marks on the state leaderboard were run at this meet, thanks to Reagan Gerhardstein (Maple Creek, 2031), who ran 5:20.63 for third in the same race. Sixth-grader Baylor Knoblauch (Woodside, 2032) went 5:26.20, good for seventh on the board.
Knoblauch's 5:15.05 is her outdoor PR, but she has already run faster indoors: she ran 5:12.34 at the ISU HSR Last Chance #2 on Mar 21, which means the state leader is still chasing her own ceiling. A year ago she was 17th at the Indiana Middle School State Championships in 5:22.81. Her outdoor mark sits 27th among 8th graders nationally. Williams's outdoor best coming in was 5:21.32 from last spring. She broke that by nearly two seconds.
Outside of that dual, Tessa Cordes (Wabash, 2030) holds third on the state board at 5:20.51, run Apr 25 at the Southwood Invitational. Harper Green (Southwestern Hanover, 2030) sits fifth at 5:24.35 and Stelle Banwart (Zionsville West, 2030) is right behind at 5:25.12. Lilly Gahl (Zionsville, 2030) rounds out the top eight at 5:26.35. Further down, Loren Alaina Horn (North Clay, 2030) ran 5:31.93 at the Forsberg Relays on Apr 25, Lillian Weigle (Benton Central Jr High, 2030) posted 5:33.34 against Tecumseh on Apr 16, and Maria Scholle (Greensburg Junior High, 2030) sits 11th at 5:35.55 out of the Greensburg Junior High Invitational on Apr 25.
