Indiana Runner Sprint Showcase Preview

The 2024 edition of the Indiana Runner Sprint Showcase looks to feature some fierce competition as the indoor club season unwinds and HSR season approaches. A total of 566 entrants were made for the Sprint showcase excluding relay teams which makes it one of the largest in its history.

MileSplit will have the team on site for coverage including social media updates and interviews as well as photos and race videos available after both the Sprint and Distance Showcase Meets!

60m Dash

In the girls 60m Jila Vaden (7.68), Kya Crooke (7.76), and Savannah Lake (7.77) look to be the favorites based solely on entry times. Jila and Kya would race two weeks ago at the IR Indoor Invitational where they would place 3rd and 7th respectively. Savanah has raced several times in Ohio this year and should be ready to go. Several top finishers from the IR Indoor Invitational also are returning to race.

On the boys side current state leader Jaidyn Johnson looks to be the favorite going into the meet. His time of 6.76 earlier this season in Chicago still ranks him  6th nationally. Dominic Calhoun is coming off a 60m PR from Louisville where he ran a 6.90 as well as a state best 200m with a 21.48 earlier this season. Christian Woodson, Issac Canady, and Finley Huber all have seed times listed at sub 7 seconds.

200m Dash

Gia Clay (25.31), Savannah Lake (25.47), Emily Norris (25.48), Chloe Senefeld (25.50), and Kya Crooke (25.50) look to be the athletes in competition for the win in the girls 200m based on entry times. Of these girls. Gia Clay ran her seed time two weeks ago down at the Louisville Indoor Games. Emily Norris is coming off a dominant performance at the Indiana Runner Invitational where she would win the 60m dash, long jump, and the 200m where she would run a 25.87.

For the boys Matthew Wray looks to be the top entrant by nearly one and a half seconds in the boys 200m. His entry time of 21.48 has him ahead of 6 boys who are seeded at 23.00 or faster. Wray has run a 22.32 so far this year when he competed at the Louisville Indoor Games two weeks ago.

400m Dash

Lucy Hauser has an entry time of 55.0. So far this season she has not competed in the event according to our database, although she has run 27.18 in the 200m at the Indiana Runner Opener. Others listed as sub 60 include Ava Grace Winters, Laila Smith, Omema Anyanwu, and Reese McKinney.

Daniel Pallekonda and Andres Langston are both listed at 50.0 on the start lists for the boys 400m. Both are looking to debut in their first 400m of the year with Andres coming off an excellent outdoor campaign last year where would PR with a 48.52 to podium with an eighth place finish at state. Josh Tait, a 2023 outdoor state qualifier, is entered just behind these two athletes with a 50.38 seed. 

60m Hurdles

Laila Smith is the lone entrant sub 9 with a 8.9 seed time. She ran this event just a few weeks ago at the first Warsaw Tiger Showcase where she would run a 8.98 to claim Indiana's top mark so far this season. Pa'shence Purnell could be close behind as she has a time of 9.10 to her name back from the first Midwest High Performance meet back in early December.

The boys looks to have more condensed competition as five entrants with seeds a tenth of a second apart from each other. D'Andre Black (8.35), David Carnell (8.37), Jerome Smith (8.40), Evan Williams (8.42), and Kwamena Quist (8.45) are the entires that look to be in a tight race with one another. Of this group Evan Williams has the best mark of the year and the state according to our database. He has run a 8.22 at the Louisville Indoor Games earlier this month.

Relays

In the 4x200m Advancement Through Athletics has the top seed on the girls side (1:43.30) while Noblesville (1:32.01) and Black Robes TC (1:32.43) have the top two on the boys side.

For the 4x400m Portage looks to be the favorite for the girls as they are listed at 4:08.23. Btown Running has the top seed for the boys with a 3:29.0.
