IR Opener Recap and Other Coverage from this Past Weekend

SPRINTS:

On the girls side, 3 girls would break 8 seconds for the 60 meter dash, headlined by the
Avon duo of Sarah Madi-Bouabre and Jiah Davenport running 7.82 and 7.97 respectively. Brebeuf Jesuit's Morgan Chestnut would also break 8 seconds by running 7.98. In the 200m event Hamilton Southeastern's Chloe Senefeld would take home the win with a time of 26.17 with Morgan Chestnut trailing behind in 26.63 off the double. In the 400, it was a close battle between two of some of the state's best sprinters with Omema Anyanwu of Zionsville and Emily Norris of Carmel, clocking 1:00.80 and 1:00.89 respectively. Westfield hurdle star, Lucy Hauser, would dominate the 60 meter hurdles running to a 9.52 seconds.

On the boys side, it was a tight battle in the 60 meters headlined by
Brownsburg's Josh Handy edging out the win in 7.09 over Princeton Community sophomore Karwin Pope (7.10) and Muncie Central senior Leo Boyd (7.10). Tippecanoe Valley senior Wade Jones would win the 200m on his future home track in 23.29 over North Central's Issac Canady in 23.33. Phoenix Boyer of Bishop Chatard would win the 400m in 52.27. Carmel's Adom Quist would win the 60 Meter Hurdles over Homestead's Jacob Martin with a winning time of 8.66 seconds.


DISTANCE:

On the Girls side, reigning cross country state champion,
Libby Dowty, would pull off the distance double winning both the 1600m and 3200m against great competition. She would run 5:00 in the 1600m and 10:26 in the 3200. Dowty's 3200 cracks the top 16 all time 3200m for indoors or outdoors. Other strong performers included University Notre Dame commit Addison Knoblauch who was right there with Dowty in the 3200 running 10:27 on top of winning the 800 in a sub 2:20 performance running 2:19. Pendleton Heights' Ava Jarrell, Jessica Hegedus of Avon, Hamilton Southeastern's Maggie Powers and Brownsburg's Scout Newman all run strong season openers for 1600 going 5:03, 5:03, 5:05 and 5:12 respectively.  

On the boys side,
Noblesville junior Jack Strong took the 1600 win running 4:27 leading the Noblesville boys to places 1,3,7,8 in this event. Horizon Christian junior Corban McGaughey was the only other athlete to break 4:30, running 4:29 for 2nd place.  Frankfort junior Christopher Angeles was the lone athlete to break the 10 minute barrier in the 3200m as he would run 9:53 for the win over Angola's Sam Yarnelle (10:05). Bloomington North star Caleb Winders would win the 800 running 2:00.45.


FIELD:

On the girls side, notable winners include
Brownsburg senior Ashlyn Schwab in the Pole Vault (12-00), Greensburg senior Emarie Jackson in the Shot Put (45-06.25), Homestead senior Ellie Irwin in the High Jump (5-06), Carmel's Emily Norris would jump to 17-10.25 in the Long Jump.

On the boys side, notable winners include
Muncie Central's Leo Boyd in the Long Jump (21-07.75), Aidan Hudspith from Frankfort in the Pole Vault (14-06), Avon's Xavier Sherrell in the High Jump (6-00), and Heritage Christian's star and future Irishman Luke Himes easily would win the Shot Put (65-06) by nearly 18 feet!
