Queen City Invitational Results

--

Myers Park senior and Notre Dame commit Mary Bonner Dalton ran 16:58 winning the College Women's race at the Queen City Invite Friday evening competing unattached.  The meet uses the College version of the 5K at McAlpine referred to as the "Pancake" course and does two loops not crossing the lake or going up the hill.

The mark is the second fastest girls 5K mark ever in North Carolina history, only trailing Nevada Mareno's 16:38 at WakeMed in 2015 and the sixth fastest in the country so far this season.

For quick reference on how fast the mark is, Stella Kermes ran 17:28 there last year and would go on to run 17:40 at Ivey Redmon at states and 17:26 at Nike Southeast.  This season Morgan Boonshaft ran 17:47 on the McAlpine Pancake course, winning the high school portion of this meet Friday, and 18:00 at Ivey Redmon last weekend.

Dalton held a previous personal best of 17:23 from 2022 where she placed 8th at Footlocker South.  She would go on to finish 12th at Footlocker National meet.

Dalton showed she isn't just a contender to return to cross-country nationals, she's a contender to win the regional.
