While the rest of us are busy preparing for the indoor track season with some early season meets before the HSR series, Kole Mathison had one more cross country race. Yes, you read that right, another cross country race in February for the Carmel Greyhound. This time Mathison represented team USA on the world stage in the men's U20 cross country championships in Bathurst, Australia.
In likely one of the craziest courses, including a zigg-zagging tire section and running right through a vineyard, Mathison crossed in 25th place in a time of 26:42 for 8000m, being the final scorer and number four for Team USA.
Team USA took 3rd overall in the competition, earning their first team medal since 1982.
Now, Mathison will come back to Carmel and look to get ready for the track season. He has already raced once indoors at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in the high school mile, placing 5th in 4:07. The University of Colorado signee will likely look to defend his 1600 and 3200 titles this outdoor season.
