Indiana state champion and record holder in the shot put Tucker Smith, won the National Throws Festival in Geneva, OH on Saturday. Smith won with a toss of 68-7.75 on his 6th and final throw of the day.
This was his first of likely many post-season meets to come. He will compete later this week at the USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships in Rome, GA.
The rising senior, called this meet a good one but something for him wasn't clicking to get the further throws he was hoping for. He felt he was shifting the weight to his left foot before he was fully stable.
Tucker Smith is coming off of an incredible junior season, where he launched a 69-4.5 throw back at the end of April at the Conference Indiana Championships and capping it off with his 1st state title and a new state meet record as well.
On a perfect meet day, Smith should not be far from an elite throw of 70 feet in the shot put. Only one athlete, Bryce Foster from Texas, has thrown over 70ft in 2021 and only 28 high school boys of all time have managed to get a throw that far. Even if he doesn't get to that mark this summer, he has one more high school season to go at Columbus North to achieve that monster goal.
