The day started out with the sprinters and two back to back meet records in the 4x200 relay. In the girl's relay, Indiana Storm TC blazed through in 1:45.30, to set a new record by 4.5 seconds. NOVA TC on the boys side managed to lower the previous record by .39 seconds to 1:32.41. With Semira Killebrew down in Tennessee for the Vanderbilt Invite, it seemed the 55m and 200m were up for grabs. Sheniya Brown, running unattached, came away with a 7.30 in the 55 for the win and 26.56 in the 200 to take 2nd. She took 2nd behind Alyssa Robinson of Indiana Storm who ran a 26.21. In the boys 55m dash, Mike Adams of Ben Davis, just narrowly missed the meet record of 6.50, and winning by the lean in 6.517.
Have no fear though, a stellar Brebeuf athlete was still at this meet, Nakita Turner came out for the 55m hurdles, taking the win in 8.29 seconds, crushing the old meet record of 8.46. The same thing happened on the boys side, with returning champ Daryl Black coming through in 7.63, to lower the old record by a mere .06 seconds.
No meet record in either of the 400 dashes, but still some great early season times, with Matthew White of St. Louis Express winning in 51.68 and Tierra Sydnor winning in 59.08. Alyssa Robinson of Indiana Storm won her 2nd event of the day in the 200, with a time of 26.21. Mike Adams also took his 2nd win of the day in the 200, coming across in 22.96.
Indiana Storm TC girl's came out to run and did just that in the 4x400, winning in 4:12.77, 6 seconds ahead of any of the competition. On the boys side American $peed showed why their club has the name speed in it, winning the 4x400 in a new meet record fashion with a time of 3:30.02.
Speed forward to the Distance Showcase in the afternoon. Aubrie Deal of Noblesville took the first event of the day, the 1200m in 3:49.99. Following the three heats of the girls 1200, Nick Petroy of Lawrence North took the win in the boys 1200, cruising to a 3:14.92 win.
In a highly anticipated race, the girls 3200, which featured multiple all-state athletes, Tyler Schwartz won in 11:26.37, leading more than half the race. The boys 3200 seemed to be just as loaded, but with a tighter pack throughout, Jesse Hamlin came out on top winning by 10 seconds in a time of 9:25.57.
The girls 800 race, featured some big names, but probably the biggest of them all proved why her name is the biggest, Brownsburg Freshman Abby Lynch won in 2:19.78. She was just 2 seconds off from the meet record, set last year by 800m stud Madison Kiser. Trey Harris of Carmel blasted through the boy's 800, winning in 1:58.06
The best race of the night came just after all the 800. In a last-ditch moment, the girls mile was converted down to a 1600, due to the size of the heats, roughly 15 athletes were in each heat. Emma Wilson made her indoor track debut, going out from the gun as if she had rockets attached to her feat. Coming through the finish in 4:54.97, which makes her the current US #1 in the 1600 this season. Wilson did what she does best, running by herself from start to finish, with 2nd place Jenna Barker clocking in at 5:08.26, 14 seconds after Wilson. Unfortunely for Wilson, since that was a 1600 instead of a mile, she does not get the meet record though.
The boys mile featured a much closer race, and many more athletes, tapping in at around 135 runners. Heat 1, the fast heat, had many all-state runners in it. Cole Hocker, stole the show though, clocking in at 4:23.73 to take the win over Ian Hunter who finished 5 seconds behind him.
After 10 heats of the boys mile, we came to the final event of the night, the DMR. Indiana Blast, really well, blasted through the girls DMR, winning in 12:57.09. Same track club on the boys side, Indiana blast, stormed through their race to take home a win in 10:53.88.
