On the Northeast side of Indianapolis, sectional number 12 took place at Hamilton Southeastern High School. The field looked to be a repeat of the HCC and Hamilton County with a couple more names added in there. Carmel, Fishers, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Southeastern, Hamilton Heights, Lebanon, Noblesville, Sheridan, University, Western Boone, and Westfield all competed here.
The night kicked off like any other meet, with the running of the 4x800 relay. Noblesville, the state leader, bettered their time to win by a large gap in 9:20.09. The ladies shaved 4 seconds off their previous time of 9:24.54 set back at the Hoosier State Relays. Carmel finished in 2nd in 9:36.74.
A half hour after the running of the sprint trials, the finals kicked off. The 100m Hurdles started it off with Emily Robertson of Westfield winning in 14.86. Moving herself up to the 6th position in the state this season.
HSE took the 100 dash with Camille Christopher winning in a time of 12.33. She moves up from 15th to 11th place in the state! She also came back later in the evening and won the 200m in 25.58.
Abi Little came back after the 4x800 win, to take the 1600 in 5:01.86 just ahead of senior Megan Slamkowski of Guerin Catholic.
In the 4x100 the top two finishers both broke the sectional record of 48.14. Fishers took the win though in 47.61, .05 off their personal best and state leading time.
The 300m Hurdles record also went down on Tuesday as well. Mia Mackenzie of HSE crossed the line in 45.33. Bettering the record by .07.
Maria Anderson of Noblesville came through in 58.01 to win the 400m, barely beating Carmel's Reagan Hune.
In the 3200 run, Carmel continued their dominance in this event with Freshman Phoebe Bates winning in 10:55.65 after sitting behind teammate Christina Geisler for most of the race. She moves up to 4th in the state, knocking Geisler down one position.
In the most exciting track event of the night, the 4x400, Noblesville once again put Abi Little and Maria Anderson on the track. Great move for them, as the Millers brought home another win in 3:58.27. Beating Fishers by less than a second. They also overtook the Tigers spot on the leaderboard, moving all the way up to 4th.
Hamilton Southeastern took home the sectional title with 141 points, beating Carmel by 6 points.
Other notable performances around the state
Lynna Irby kept her perfect postseason record at the Ben Davis Sectional winning the 100, 200, 400 and 4x400. She is now 50-0 in postseason competition. She is the favorite to win the 100, 200 and 400 at state this year. If she completes this, she will be the first female to ever win 12 individual state titles in track.
Katie Isenbarger of Zionsville, set a new school, sectional, and state leading jump in the high jump, clearing 6 feet. Oh and she is now tied for number 2 in the USA. Another inch and she will be tied for number one in the country. Zionsville also won their sectional, the first in school history.
Warren Central swept the 100m Hurdles, with three hurdlers, Kayland Jackson, Kennedy Batts, and K'Ja Talley, heading to regionals next week. Warren also won their sectional.
Lawrence North had a great night at the Pendleton Heights Sectional. WInning 8 of the events of the night. They scored 154 points to top Pendleton Heights at 96. Grace Dean, sophomore, competed in three events and won all three. Dean, is undefeated in sectional competition.
