KTCCCA Adds 8 Athletes to Hall of Fame from St. Henry, Bourbon County, Shelby County, Tilghman, Valley, Bath County, & Boyd County

KIM HAWKINS - Bath County

Kim Hawkins was an outstanding runner at Bath County High School under the direction of KTCCCA Hall of Fame Nominee, Hopey Newkirk.  She began a successful high school career as a participant in the sixth grade and captured seven individual Regional Cross Country Championships, three individual Cross Country State Championships, 8 individual Regional Track and Field Championships and eight individual State Track and Field Championships during her high school running days.  

Hawkins help lead the Bath County Girls to a State Track and Field Runner-up finish 1984 and they followed it up with a State Championship in 1985 with Kim again leading the way.  She was selected as a High School All-American in 1985.

Kim entered Purdue University in the fall of 1985 to run for the legendary coach, Fred Wilt.  Upon his retirement she transferred to the University of Kentucky to be with one of the top middle distance coaches in Kentucky, our own KTCCCA Hall of Famer – Don Weber.  At Kentucky she set an indoor track record in the 880 Yard Dash with a time of 2:13.47 and an outdoor record of 2:07.51.  While at UK, Hawkins was the lead leg of the Distance Medley Relay when she and her three teammates ran the fastest collegiate time in the nation in 1986 while participating in one of the nation’s top collegiate meet . . . the Penn Relays.

As a junior, she captured the Oscar Mayer Women’s Mile with an impressive time of 4:50.17.  To top of a very impressive running career she was selected as an NCAA D-1 All-American in 1986, 1987 and again in 1989.  

In her professional career Kim has worked as an investigator for the Office of the Inspector General, Division of Special Investigations in the Lexington, Kentucky office.  In her spare time she enjoys working with thoroughbreds as an exercise rider for Juddmonte Farms, Ramsey Farms and Lakeland Farm.
