The Kats For A Cure Track Club claimed three places at the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational, Saturday.
Leading the way was Kokomo High School senior Summer Blackamore who placed second in the shot put with a 41'1 3/4" effort. KHS sophomore Deju Miller finished in a three-way tie for third in the high jump with a 5'2" jump. Miller was joined by fellow sophomore Taylor Coram, freshman Ja'Lyn Thompson and Central Junior High sixth-grader Tionna Brown in the 800-meter relay that finished second in 1:55.95.
"Our club enjoys competiting at IWU against the collegiate and other open competition," said Club coach K.O. Jackson. "We had some good showings and we had some efforts that quickly need to be cleaned up and improved, but that's why we train so hard. Our field events are a major aspect of our Spring team and they are doing well. And for Tionna, all I can say is our future sprints program looks really good and fast."
Clocking 8.12, Brown finished 13th out of 49 sprinters in the 60-meter dash.
The Kats return to action, Saturday, Feb. 8 at the IWU Midwest Indoor Classic
