Carmel Boys Take IHSAA State Cross-Country Title

The Carmel Greyhounds competed in today's 68th Annual Boys Cross Country Championship and with a strong race were able to repeat as State Champions over a very formidable team from Columbus North, 64 to 78.  Additional teams included Ft. Wayne Carroll (192), Brebeuf Jesuit (198), Terre Haute South (228), Bloomington South (230), North Central (230), Northridge (234), West Lafayette (244), Lawrence North (265), Westfield (269), Warsaw (337), Munster (347), Bloomington North (359), Ft. Wayne Dwenger (369), Zionsville (382), South Adams (390), Valparaiso (416), Crown Point (422), Homestead (452), South Bend Riley (503), South Knox (581), Lake Central (587) and Evansville North (606).
 
Individual winner was Terre Haute South's Jackson Bertoli with a time of 15:32.4.  Running for Carmel were Ben Veatch (5th in 15:44.0), Robert Browning (7th in 15:47.4), Ben Anderson (13th in 15:51.8), Michael George (33rd in 16:11.7), Thomas Revard (36th in 16:14.0), Daniel Sechuga (41st in 16:15.6) and Josh Horowitz (45th in 16:17.6).
 
The day was also made special as Carmel's Robert Browning was named the recipient of the Charles F. Maas Mental Attitude Award.
 
A special congratulations to Coach Mark Ellington, his staff and the Carmel Girls team on winning their 4th consecutive State Championship and to Carmel's Kelcy Welch on winning both the individual title AND the Mental Attitude Award.
 
It was truly a special day for the Carmel Family and we thank our fans, parents, administrators and all who have supported the two programs this season.
