MIC Champs Meet Preview and Information

2017 Girls Varsity Race

Girls Preview

When was the last time a team beat the Lady Greyhounds? 2002 and 2003 when the Lady Wildcats of Lawrence North pulled off the win over the Hounds. There have only been three times since 1996 that the Carmel Girls have not won the MIC Title, and all three of those times have been losses to the Lawrence North Girls. But this year looks like the possible end to that 14 year streak. And no, it doesn't look like the win will come from the Cats, but rather the Red Devils of Pike

Pike's top three are all seniors and are more than ready to show this younger Carmel squad that it's their turn to take home the team trophy. With the addition of Elizabeth Stanhope to the team this year, they look like one of the top teams in the state. Getting a few girls under 19 minutes will be a big need for this squad if they truly want to upset Carmel. Usually we talk about how the #5 runner is the key to who changes up the team score the most, but it may actually be in their #3 runner tomorrow. Using our virtual meet feature, there should be a group of three or four Carmel girls and then a Pike runner or two. If those two Pike girls can find a way to push just a little bit on that final straightaway and get around at least one of the Carmel girls, that will make the difference between the team trophy.

The team race in this girls race will be the most exciting thing, as Phoebe Bates still looks untouchable and will more than likely be running most of the race all on her own. Behind her should be Elizabeth Stanhope and teammate Nia Taylor. We could also then see our first LN runner, Sarah Greer
