Training Blog: Taylor Nicholson Give an Inside Look

Week 2: 8/17 - 8/23

I stayed at a 36 mile week this week and kept my PPM distances at 3 mile short PPM and 4 mile long PPM (I am planning on moving up in mileage and PPMs next week!).

Monday- Long Run- 6 miles

This was definitely an interesting run! We were restricted to one short trail because of the threat of storms! Luckily it didn't storm (just some rain) so we didn't have to end our run early. I was finally starting to get over a cold that I had had for about a week. I finished up the day with 4 strides and the Myrtle routine.

Tuesday- Short PPM- 3 mile PPM 4 miles total

Today I had a ½ mile warm up, 3 mile PPM, and a ½ mile cool down. I felt better than I did last week, but was surprised with how well my time actually ended up being. I did core and the Myrtle routine and finished up the day with jump rope practice from 6-8.

Wednesday- CT- 5 miles

Today was a basic mileage day!

Thursday- Long PPM- 4 mile PPM 5 miles total

Today I had a ½ mile warm up, 4 mile PPM, and a ½ mile cool down. It was a pretty good PPM, but I am looking forward to moving up next week! I finished practice with core and the Myrtle routine, and also had jump rope from 6-8.

Friday- CT- 4 miles

Today after our mileage run we had our first pasta party!! We had a basic mileage day at an easier tempo then finished up practice so we could head over to the pasta party. We have pasta parties with both our boy's and girl's teams every Friday before a race. It's a great way to have more team bonding, plus we get free pasta which is always great! I packed all of my things for our meet tomorrow before I went to bed!

Saturday- RACE DAY- 3 mile Hokum Karem 7 miles total

Our race was in Plainfield and was a Hokum Karem. Kate Bernicke was my partner and we had a pretty solid race. It was a great way to shift into racing. I ran in my brand new spikes but got lots of blisters (which I seem to be prone to). So hopefully this doesn't happen next race!! We also had a team movie night! After graduating many seniors last year, our team is mainly newer runners that are underclassmen. So this was another great opportunity for some team bonding!

Sunday- CT- 5 mile

I just ran 5 miles by myself around my neighborhood. I ran later in the evening and slept in in the morning for the first time in a while!
