Hoosier State Relays Small School Preview

60m Dash

Pa'Shence Purnell finishes 4th at the Red Devil Classic to place herself 3rd in the HSR Small Rankings with a 7.97

In the 60m Dash Sam Feeney comes in with the top mark of 7.01 where he would place fourth in the finals at the Warren Central HSR Qualifier #2. The Delta boys are also looking to get a boost with multiple scorers in the event as Brayden Stanley (#2) and Grey Backus (#6) both have top eight seed times. From the HSR finals last year Stanley and Bishop Williams from Jimtown return

For the girls Kya Crooke enters with the fastest seed of 7.75 coming from her 3rd place finish at the Blue & White Relays this past weekend at Anderson. Pa'Shence Purnell and Dusty Welker have also been under 8 seconds going 7.97 and 7.98 respectively. Kya looks to play an important role for Heritage Chirstian as she is also the top seed for the small school high jump and long jump. Crooke won the 60m final last year and has previously mentioned Welker Adeline Miller, and Kyarra DeGroote returning from last year's HSR finals.

3200m Run

Half of the field is entered with sub 10 minute seed times with Hayden Kemple having the fastest mark so far this year with his runner-up performance in 9:25.13 to Ian Baker at the West Lafayette Individuals. Kemple finished 3rd at last year's meet and will have good competition with a couple scorers from last year returning including Noah Bontrager and Calvin Crabtree. Joseph LaPatra, who is coming off a top 25 finish in cross country, is another that should be in the mix to win as he has the only other sub 9:30 seed in the field at 9:29.39.

The girls 3200m should be an exciting cross country state rematch between Nicki Southerland and Libby Dowty. Southerland has a better seed time from the qualifying window running a 10:27 to narrowly defeat Ava Jarrell at the OWL HSR qualifier but it should be noted that Dowty has run a 10:26 this indoor season at the Indiana Runner Opener at Taylor. This should be a fun race to watch and see what tactics each runner decides to deploy. Scorers returning from last year's meet include Hadessah Austin, who also has a sub 11 minute seed time at 10:55, as well as Hannah Moore and Sarah Maple.

60m Hurdles

The 60m Hurdles look to be very competitive this year with the top 6 seed times all being within 0.01 seconds or better than the winning finals time of 8.60 from last year.
William Walden holds the top seed at 8.44 from the second Warren Central HSR Qualifier. Others that could be in the mix include Marcus Bright, Spencer Stout, Phoenix Boyer, Cooper Altherr, and Seffrin Smith

For the girls Isabella Sotelo has had a very impressive freshman campaign as she holds the top seed of 9.11 heading into the weekend. She has clocked this time at the Pike Individual Championships a couple of weeks ago before running a 9.20 this past weekend at the Blue & White Relays. Having seed times close behind include a pair of seniors with Landyn Rasche (9.13) and Pa'Shence Purnell (9.14). Returning from the podium last year also includes Kathryn Ison and Elle Knepp.
