EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The sixth-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team continued its dominance of the Great Lakes Valley Conference by featuring the top three runners and winning its seventh-straight conference title Saturday morning at the USI Cross Country Course. The Screaming Eagles also have won eight of the last nine conference titles and a league-best 19 crowns in the 33-year history of the GLVC Championships.
 
USI posted a team score of 27 points, 26 points better than second place Bellarmine University. The top-five Eagle runners placed first, second, third, 10th, and 11th.
 
Leading the pack for the Eagles was senior Brendan Devine (Bethel, New York), who became USI's 10th individual GLVC cross country champion by flying past the field with an 8k time of 24 minutes, 29.4 seconds. Devine also was named the GLVC Runner of the Year for his efforts.
 
Junior Michael Jordan (Indianapolis, Indiana) and freshman Tyler Pence (Springfield, Illinois) completed USI's sweep of the top three places with finishes of second and third, respectively. Jordan, who caught Pence in the final 100 yards with an explosive kick to the finish line, completed the course in 24 minutes, 40.2 seconds, while Pence, who was the GLVC Freshman of the Year, was 3.2 seconds behind with a time of 24 minutes, 43.4 seconds.
 
The Eagles wrapped up the conference title when senior Dustin Emerick  (Elmwood, Illinois) and senior John Latta (Brazil, Indiana) finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Emerick completed the four cycles of the course in 25 minutes, 13.9 seconds, while Latta ran the 8k in 25 minutes, 17.1 seconds.
 
Devine, Jordan, Pence, Emerick, and Latta were named All-GLVC for their efforts in the championship.

Head Coach Mike Hillyard was named the GLVC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year as the Eagles also captured their sixth women's title in the history of the program. It marks the 13th and 14th time in Hillyard's career that he has been voted the GLVC Coach of the Year.

USI now sets its sights on the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on November 5 in Big Rapids, Michigan. The top three teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships November 19 in Spokane, Washington.
