Women's runners capture Little State title

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team captured its 12th Little State title Friday at the Indiana Intercollegiate as it finished first amongst 14 non-NCAA Division I schools and fifth overall in the 21-team field.

Senior All-American Jackie Henderson finished first amongst non-NCAA Division I competitors and 17th overall to pace the Screaming Eagles, who captured the Little State title the last time USI competed in the Indiana Intercollegiate in 2008. Henderson finished the 5k race in 18 minutes, 34 seconds.

Junior Lauren Minor was 29th overall and second in the Little State competition with a time of 19 minutes, five seconds, while sophomore Erika Wilson finished 43 overall and fifth amongst Little State competitors.

As a team, the Eagles finished the overall competition with 180 points and the Little State competition with 28 points. Indiana University and Butler University finished first and second, respectively, while Purdue University and Indiana State University were third and fourth, respectively. Taylor University finished second in the Little State competition and 10th overall.

The Eagles return to action October 1 when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
