BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Junior sprinter Russell Farris and junior distance runner Dustin Emerick each recorded fourth-place finishes this weekend to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team in its 2011 indoor season-opener at the Gladstein Invitational.

Farris finished fourth in the heptathlon, amassing 3,714 points on the strength of a second-place effort in the shot put and a third-place showing in the pole vault. Senior Cole Schroer finished fifth in the heptathlon with 3,624 points after putting up a third-place finish in the high jump.

Emerick earned his fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters by crossing the finish line in a career-best eight minutes, 24.63 seconds, a time that moves him into fifth on USI's all-time indoor performance list.

Freshman distance runner Austin Viano rounded out the Screaming Eagles' top performers with his fifth-place showing in the 5,000 meters.

USI returns to action January 28-29 when it competes at the Indiana University Relays in Bloomington.
