USI is second at 2010 GLVC Championships

McClanahan earns Freshman of the Year honors

SOMERS, Wis. –
The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team put four runners in the top 15, but placed second in the GLVC Championships on the Wayne Dannehl Cross Country Course in Somers, Wisconsin. The second place finish ended USI's string of conference titles at three.

USI had a team total of 54 points, just two off the pace set by Bellarmine University, which had a team total of 52. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside was third with 94 points, while Northern Kentucky University and Lewis University rounded out the top five with 107 and 114 points, respectively.

Leading the Screaming Eagles was junior Jackie Henderson (Schererville, Indiana), who was second overall with a 6k time of 22 minutes, eight seconds. She trailed GLVC individual champion and Lewis University's Kathryn Hague by 39 seconds.

Junior Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Kentucky) was second on the Eagles and 10th overall, while freshman Kaylee McClanahan (Huntertown, Indiana) and freshman Erika Wilson (Pekin, Indiana) were 12th and 14th, respectively. McClanahan became the fifth Eagle to earn Freshman of the Year honors with her time of 22 minutes, 42 seconds.

Henderson, Curtis, McClanahan, and Wilson were named All-GLVC for their efforts. The All-GLVC honor was the third for Curtis and the second for Henderson.

USI's top five was completed by the 16th place showing of senior Heather Beard (Westfield, Indiana).

The Eagles start their run toward the NCAA Division II Championships when they run in the NCAA II Midwest Regional November 20 in Louisville, Kentucky. The regional and the national championships, which are scheduled for December 4, will be run at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
