Henderson earns GLVC honor

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior Jackie Henderson was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance at the Appalachian State University Mountaineer Open this past Friday.

Henderson was fifth overall on the 5k course, leading her squad to a second-place finish. Her time of 18 minutes, 40.80 seconds was less than a minute off the winning pace set by Ohio State's Ellen Birmingham.

As a team, the Screaming Eagles placed four runners in the top 14 and five in the top 20 as they finished with 57 points, 18 ahead of third-place University of Alabama-Birmingham.

This marks the first time in Henderson's career that she has earned the GLVC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award and the second time she has earned a GLVC honor after garnering GLVC Female Track Athlete of the Week honors last spring.

A mathematics major, Henderson earned All-GLVC honors on the cross country course a year ago after finishing sixth at the conference meet. She also earned second-team All-GLVC honors in indoor track last winter and first-team All-Conference honors in outdoor track last spring.

USI returns to action October 2 when it completes at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
