BOONE, N.C.—The No. 8 University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team ran to tie for second place with Division II foe and No. 7 Queens University (North Carolina) in its 2010 season-opener at the Appalachian State University Mountaineer Open Friday evening.

Led by junior All-American Dustin Emerick, the Screaming Eagles had five runners in the top 18 as they finished with 57 points, 28 shy of first-place Ohio State University and nearly 80 in front of fourth-place East Tennessee State University.

Emerick finished seventh with a four-mile time of 20 minutes, 3.51 seconds, just over 40 seconds off the winning pace set by Queens' senior Michael Crouch.

Senior Andrew Dixon was 11th with a mark of 20 minutes, 17.21 seconds, while junior All-American Brendan Devine finished 13th with a time of 20 minutes, 25.16 seconds.

Devine edged out sophomore Michael Callison, who was less than a second behind him when Callison crossed the finish line in 14th place. Freshman Josh Graham rounded out the Eagles' top five runners with an 18th-place effort.

The Eagles return to action October 2 when they compete in the Greater Louisville Classic at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, site of the NCAA II Midwest Region and NCAA II National Championship meets.
