USI runners move up in national rankings

National Rankings (pdf.)

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country teams each moved up a spot in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Top 25 poll.

USI's men rose to sixth in the national poll, their highest ranking since cracking the top five in the early 1990's, while the women's squad jumped to 19th.

The Screaming Eagles were joined in both the men's and women's rankings by Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Bellarmine University, which was 17th in the men's poll and 22nd in the women's poll. USI also is second in the men's Midwest Region rankings and third in the women's regional rankings.

Throughout the first two meets of the season, junior Michael Jordan and freshman Tyler Pence have led the men's squad. Jordan finished third at the Appalachian State University Covered Bridge Open and was 15th overall at the Indiana Intercollegiate two weeks ago. Pence was sixth at the Covered Bridge Open and 27th at the Indiana Intercollegiate.

Senior Jackie Henderson has been the women's top competitor throughout the first two meets of the season. Henderson was 20th at the Covered Bridge Open and 18th at the Indiana Intercollegiate.

USI, which was idle last weekend, returns to action this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) when it competes at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
