ROLLA, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend behind the first-place performances of junior Jackie Henderson and senior Allison Laird.

Henderson finished first in the 5,000 meters on Sunday, crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 11.99 seconds, while Laird was first in the 10,000 meters Saturday evening with a time of 39 minutes, 6.13 seconds.

As a team, the Screaming Eagles had 10 top-five performances as they finished with 74 points. USI had the lead after the first day as it racked up 52 points throughout the first seven events.

The Eagles also got strong performances from junior Adrienne Curtis as well as freshmen Kaylee McClanahan and Emily Diedrich. Curtis was second in the 10,000 meters, while McClanahan finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Diedrich, who also competes on USI's volleyball team, shattered the Eagles' record in the shot put as she finished second with a throw of 41 feet, 7.75 inches.

USI is slated to compete at a pair of last-chance meets—the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois, this Thursday and Friday and the Louisville Cardinal Twilight in Louisville, Kentucky, this Friday—before competing at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in Stanislaus, California, May 26-28.
